X is for Crossovers #AtoZchallenge

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Maybe I’m cheating by using X as Crossover, but I think in the context of fandom, it’s an important conversation to have.  And I don’t think it’ll be complete in one post, I did at least want to start talking about it.

Crossovers are fun!

I think the biggest thing I’ve discovered about crossovers is that they are fun.  From the Supernatural x Scooby Doo (yes, really!) crossover, to the yearly CW crossover events in the DC universe, it’s been really fun watching characters that I love interact with one another.  So, for the purposes of this post, I’ll be focusing on the DC crossovers.  Though, there are others – from Fanfiction to series’ set in the same universe (The Trouble with Tribbles DS9 episode anyone?), I guess the best thing about crossovers are they are *fun*.

You could even argue that the Marvel ensemble movies are giant crossovers, bringing together characters that are out and out separate and dealing with different things in their own story lines.

DC’s Crossover events

I guess the reason I thought of this post was because I’ve enjoyed watching Arrow, the Flash, Supergirl and Legends of Tomorrow crossovers every year.  They’ve always been fun, and hit on some of the best bits of the comic books, and the upcoming one, Crisis on Infinite Earths, seems to be no different.  I’m so excited for that one. supergirl-the-flash-1544697037.jpg

The Crossover events are always super hyped, always tie into the story lines of the seasons behind them (even tenuously) and always up the stakes somewhat.  Because it’s been established there are multiple universes, it was always the case that Infinite Crisis had to happen (if you know the comic books anyway), and given Arrow is ending this year, it makes sense that they’re going out with a bang, as it were.

What are your favourite crossovers?  Are you looking forward to Crisis on Infinite Earths?  Did you enjoy Elseworlds?
